Biodiversity

Biodiversity is the variety of plants, animals, and nature on Earth. This richness is important for clean air, healthy soils, sufficient food, and a stable climate. However, due to deforestation, intensive agriculture, and pollution, biodiversity is rapidly disappearing. This is not only bad for nature but also for our daily lives and economy.

Investing in biodiversity

Real prices not only involve making hidden costs visible but also the responsibility to prevent damage or, if that is not possible yet, to restore it. Biodiversity suffers from the harmful emissions of airplanes. Since there are no planes or fuels yet that can truly prevent this damage, we choose to invest in restoration. This does not mean your flight is ‘compensated’; the emissions remain and still contribute to climate change.

What do we invest in?

The Future Friendly Fund invests in projects that protect and restore nature and biodiversity. We do this with a so-called revolving fund. This means: if a project is successfully completed, the money (or part of it) returns. But this is not guaranteed. With the money that returns, we can support new projects again. This way, we ensure lasting and growing impact.

  • Restoring farmland: We invest in farmers who work with nature, for example, through regenerative agriculture and agroforestry. This way, they improve the soil and create more life on and around the land.
  • Protecting and restoring forests: We invest in projects that plant trees, stop deforestation, and manage forests in a smart and nature-friendly way.
  • Restoring marine and aquatic life: We invest in the restoration of coral reefs, mangroves, and other important water areas, so plants and animals can live and grow there again.
  • Businesses that help nature: We invest in entrepreneurs who help restore biodiversity, such as ecotourism or farmers who produce food in a nature-friendly way.

Why invest in biodiversity?

We all need biodiversity. A nature with many different plants, animals, and healthy soils ensures clean water, sufficient food, and a stable climate. By investing in the restoration of biodiversity, we not only protect what is at risk of disappearing but also build a future with strong nature, resilient landscapes, and a livable planet for everyone.
